You and I both know that getting out of debt and reaching our financial goals is WAY MORE than just scrimping pennies and slashing our spending as much as we can.
Right?
The best way to accelerate how fast we reach our financial goals is to bring in extra money.
So today’s video is meant to spark some ideas for you of how you can quickly and easily bring in some EASY money!
How did we quickly and easily make $2,000 in cash?
We sold jewelry!
A few years ago, my mother passed away, and as her only child, I inherited all of her belongings — including her jewelry.
Last year, my husband, Mike, was going through some things and came across her jewelry that she had collected over the years.
She had bought a lot of it from QVC and local department stores so it didn’t hold any sentimental value.
I picked out the pieces that I wanted to keep, and Mike found a local antique shop that bought all kinds of collectibles, antiques, coins, and jewelry for cash!
I was a little skeptical because I knew my mom had spent a lot of money on the jewelry so I wanted to make sure that we weren’t going to be taken advantage of.
When Mike took the jewelry in, they examined it and verified what were precious stones and metals and what was costume jewelry. But they wanted it all.
And then they made us an offer.
Mike texted me and told me that they wanted to give us over $2,000 for it!
I said, “Okay!”
It was a super quick and painless process that brought in over $2,000!
And the best part is that we were able to pay off a huge chunk of debt with that quick sale of jewelry!

Do you have some jewelry that you wouldn’t mind parting with to bring in some extra money and get you closer to achieving your financial goals?

I love this idea! I’m in the process of moving, and there’s a huge expat community that wants to buy baby stuff, so I’m going to do that 🙂

That’s perfect, Sarah! Baby stuff always sells really well!

Unfortunately, the things around our house that are worth anything of note come with some pretty strong sentimental strings attached, but this is a good reminder that sometimes it’s OK to let go.

Thanks, Renee!

I struggle with selling things. I grew up with little to none and we were often gifted items from those who were more fortunate. Now I typically give things of value that I no longer want to someone who may need them. Granted, I haven’t come across any jewelry and may look at it different if it were something that no one actually needs like clothes or baby items. I do need to be a little better about not giving away EVERYTHING though… because I often give away even my efforts instead of charging what I should.
Monica Louie says
Giving is sooo important, Jenni! It sounds like you’re paying it forward, which is definitely commendable. But there is a fine line with being too generous. A lot of people are either on one end of the spectrum or the other.

It can be so hard to sell sentimental items, but if you have no plans to use them or put them on display then why not, and then use that money for something useful. I’m sure your mother would want you to be happy with that money!! I just started selling many of our baby items now that we no longer need them. We’re making some serious change on them. I had such a hard time getting rid of (what were to me) memories, but I know I can use that money to not only de-clutter our house and create new memories with my kids!!

Baby items are a huge hit on the resale market! If you’ve got them and don’t need them, then I say sell them! Of course, keep the items that do hold sentimental value, but you can make decent money selling bouncers, strollers, cribs, and toys!

I don’t have any jewelry to sell, but I do love the idea of thinking through what is in your home that may be collectible that you can sell – or even not collectible such as clothing. It could be easy money, declutters your home, and you pass those items onto others who will actually enjoy them instead of just being stored. Triple win.
Monica Louie says
Yes, yes, yes! We’ve paid off a LOT of debt by selling things around our home — collectible or not. Electronics sell really well, but we’ve had luck selling clothing, toys, and workout equipment too!

That’s awesome – What a HUGE chunk of change!
Monica Louie says
Thanks, Erin! We were pleased!

I wonder what treasures are lying in attics and basements. I tend to be super-skeptical whenever I hear someone say “These are collectibles – they are worth a lot of money!” But I suppose you never know until you have someone who knows appraise them.
Monica Louie says
Yep! I was skeptical about selling the jewelry, but I couldn’t argue with the offer! I know there are reputable antique shops around, but getting a referral is always a good idea if you can.

Awesome! That’s great. 🙂 Keep it up.
