We’re expanding the family!
No, we’re not having another baby.
We’re growing our online family.
We’re spreading the love over on Facebook.
While we’ve had a Facebook page ever since we launched the website in January 2015, we’ve decided to start a Facebook group.
The core purpose of starting the website was to create a community of debt-free families and soon-to-be debt free families.
And we all know Facebook is great for creating connections.
With more than a BILLION (yep, billion with a B!) users EACH DAY, Facebook knows a thing or two about building community.
Introducing Your Debt Freedom Family!
This website is about my family’s journey out of debt and how you can apply the strategies and processes we’ve used to take control of your money, pay off debt, and work toward true financial freedom.
But the group is about so much more!
It’s a place for support for those of us who are determined to kick debt to the curb forever!

Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
And sometimes the people we spend the most time with don’t understand why we want to get out of debt so quickly.
Even if they do get it, we still need constant support and encouragement to stay on track and keep pushing toward our goals.
And you’ll be sure to get that inside the community.
I encourage you to share whatever you’re dealing with inside the group. Share your goals, your struggles, your wins, and your losses. Because the more we share and support each other, the faster we’ll all be able to achieve our goals.
We’ll have daily themes to share our tips and strategies:
#MoneyMakingMonday – Share your creative strategies for making more money, honey!
#TopTipTuesday – Share your top tip of the week that’s helping you reach your financial goals faster.
#WinningWednesday – Share your wins so that we can celebrate with you!
#ThankfulThursday – Share what or who you’re thankful for. Gratitude will keep you going when times get tough.
#FrugalFriday – Share how you’re saving money right now. What funny or out of the ordinary approach are you using to reach your goals?
#WeekendWisdom – Share a motivational quote or an inspiring story that you know will encourage others.
And we’ll have challenges, videos, giveaways, and whole bunch of other surprises to keep things interesting!
Getting out of debt is a lot of work, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun in the process!

Your Debt Freedom Family Manifesto
If you’re here, you’re family.
We are a family that is on the path to debt freedom.
Freedom from debt for us is not a “nice to have.” It’s not a “hope to have.”
No.
For us, it’s a truth that WE WILL achieve.
It’s just a matter of when.
We are determined to become debt free, and we will do whatever we need to, within reason, to make it happen.
Not because it sounds like a good goal to have or something we “should” do.
But because we understand what becoming debt-free will allow for our future and our family’s future.
We understand that every day that passes that debt has a hold on us is a day that we’ve told our dreams to take a back seat.
We believe the future is bright and that WE create our own destiny.
We’re grabbing life by the horns and kicking debt to the curb because we no longer agree to be constrained by debt.
We no longer agree to allow debt to choke us.
We no longer agree to pass up opportunities because we “can’t afford” them.
No. We’ve had enough!
We realize that it’s the debt that is holding us back from living life on our terms so we’re committed to showing debt who’s boss.
And we won’t give up until we’ve knocked it out of our lives forever!
Becoming debt-free will give us freedom.
The freedom to live life on our terms.
To us, that means we’ll have the freedom to:
- quit our jobs if we choose to
- to start a business if we desire to
- to travel the world if we want to
- to save enough for retirement so we don’t have to worry about our future
- to never live paycheck to paycheck again
- to pay for our kids to attend college so they don’t have to bear the burden of student loan debt like we did
- to give more to causes we feel passionate about
- to make the world a better place
We understand that paying off debt is not just about what it will do for us and our future.
But it’s about living a life of purpose.
It’s about increasing the positive impact we can have on the world.
We not only want to help ourselves. But we also want to help OTHERS outside of our immediate household.
This is a movement.
This is not just about scrimping pennies.
This is about living with intention, dreaming big, and ensuring that our spending habits are align with our goals and priorities.
This is about being smart with our money and, as Mahatma Ghandi said, being “the change we wish to see in the world.”
This is about setting an example for our children and grandchildren of how to life without regrets.
Yes, this is about living within our means so that we can confidently pursue our dreams.
But we know that “living within our means” does not imply that our “means” must stay small.
We have the power to live a rich life — however we define it.
Yes!
WE are family.
We may not always agree, but we promise to show each other love, respect, and encouragement at all times.
We promise to pick each other up when we fall.
We promise to give more than we take.
And we promise to conquer our debt together while having fun in the process!

Aw, thank you! It’s been a lot of fun so far!

Facebook groups are so great for topics like this, especially when you can control who joins the group to ensure that each member feels 100% comfortable with sharing info in the group. Great idea!
Monica Louie says
Yes! I want to make it a safe place for people to share. Personal finance is very personal, and I know not everyone is comfortable sharing details, but I want to create an ongoing conversation around being intentional with money, paying off debt, and building wealth. Thanks, Marlynn!

That is a fantastic and broad list of daily themes, and it is a great idea to have a community of support and source of ideas whether you’re starting the debt fight or in the middle or completed it, whatever your goals and plans

Thanks, Pechluck! That’s the goal! 🙂
